Michael Curly Cunningham 4 Mile

This race was held in Galbally by Mooreabbey Milers A.C. on Friday evening. 

It is a lovely tribute to the memory of a very popular figure who was seen at races throughout the country.

There was a total of 124 athletes running in this event. Declan Moore of Bilboa AC was the outright winner in a time of 19:39. Dympna Dyan of Dundrum AC was the first woman in a time of 22:42.

We had a number of club members racing on the night. They were led home by Killian Lynch (2nd) 20:42, Colum McCarthy 24:31, Kevin O’Donoghue 26:01, Shane Quille 27:37, Con Mulcahy 28:26, Richard Lenihan 30:59 and Paul Crotty 36:38.

Killarney 10k

Some of our members ran in this 10k race on a beautiful Saturday morning in Co Kerry.

This run in Killarney is one of the most scenic on the race calendar.

First home from the club was Karol Downey in 41:15. He was followed by Eamonn Moran 45:02 and Gerard Hannon 52:13.

Copenhagen Marathon

Well done to Aislinn Nic Dhomhnaill who finished the Copenhagen Marathon in a super time of 2:42:03.

A brilliant result for Aislinn.

County Juvenile Championships

On Sunday we travelled to UL with our juveniles to compete in the county championships. A dull morning turned into a glorious afternoon and each and every one of our athletes did the club, their coaches and families immensely proud.

The U9 girls and boys started off the day with their relays. Both teams ran really well against tough competition. They then went on to compete in 60m sprints, 300m and long jump. The U9 girls on the day were Clara Dooley, Aoife Sheehan, Fiadh O Donoghue, Aoife O Kelly and Kacie Scanlon. This was many of these girls’ first competition and they all did so well in their chosen events. Kacie Scanlon won bronze in the 300m. The U9 boys on the day were Jude Broderick, Cathal Shine, Lucas Lynch, Shane Hough, Dylan Nunan, and Richard Stack. Jude Broderick came 2nd in both the 60m and 300m winning silver, he also competed in the U10 boys relay team who came 2nd. Lucas Lynch came 3rd in the 300m.

The U10 boys and girls were next competing in the relays. The boys had 2 teams. The girls had one team and came 2nd while one of the boys teams also came 2nd. The U10 girls on the day were Elsa Fahy, Molly O Connor, Mollie Buckley, Laura Smith. Elsa Fahy came away with two individual gold medals for the 60m and 500m. Donal shine was just shy of a medal in the 500m for the U10 boys. The U10 boys were Joey Liston, Daniel McCoy, Donal Shine, Sam Lynch, Ruairi Boyce, and Michael Dooley.

The U11 relay teams had mixed luck, the boys bagged a bronze while the girls just lost out to bronze in the final few metres. Anna Stack won silver in her long jump. The U11 girls and boys competing on the day were Katelyn Barrett, Emily Sheehan, Anna Stack, Amy Kenrik, Ali Howie, Ruairi Boyce, Jack Young, Dinny Stokes and Conor Hayes. 

The U12 girls and boys ran great relays, the boys came 3rd bringing home bronze and the girls narrowly missed out on a medal. We had 2 girls teams on the day. Three of our U12 girls made the 60m sprint final, Eva May Lawlor, Aisling Fitzgerald and Erin Broderick with Eva May and Aisling sharing the bronze medal. Tom Howie made the 60m final in the boys U12 category. The U12 girls and boys were Erin Broderick, Ayda Daly, Eva May Lawlor, Aisling Fitzgerald, Leah Nunan, Amy Lenihan, James King, Cormac Murphy, Tom Howie and Danny Liston.

The U13 boys relay team were just pipped on the home straight for a bronze medal. Joseph Carr came 3rd in the 600m final. Leyna Cussen beat some very tough competition to win the gold in the U13 80m final. The U13s were Adam Broderick, Joseph Carr, James McCoy and Leyna Cussen. The U14 girls of Katie Lenihan and Ciara Lannigan once again turned out great performances for the club both girls ran in a relay and also competed individually. Katie was part of the Junior Men’s relay team which earned a silver medal for their exploits. The Junior Men’s events proved quite successful for the club with Josh Cummins winning a bronze in the 100m sprint and a silver in the Long Jump. Aaron Lynch won a bronze medal in the 800m. Kieran O’Connor competed in both sprint distances for his U16 age group and ran very well on the day.
