Munster Indoor Championships 2020:
Munster U9 to U11 Indoor Championships took place on Saturday the 15th
February. West Limerick Athletics Club had 11 children running across sprints,
long jumps and track races.

U9 Girls 60m sprint
Amy Lenihan
First race of the day and Amy Lenihan ran her first sprint race in a time 12:39
secs, she ran a great sprint for someone so new to the track.
39 children running crossing 5 heats , 3 heats in semi-final and then 10
children in the final, with a winning time from a child from Belgooly A.C in 9.89

U9 Boys 60m sprint
Danny Liston had a busy day for his first day at the track he reached the semi-
finals and then the finals in the 60m  – an amazing achievement for a 7 year old
at Munster level on his first day out.
33 children running across 4 heats, 2 heats in semi-final, a total of 16 children,
and then 9 children in the final.
Danny came second in his heat in a time of 10:54, then came 3rd in the semi-
final in a time of 10:28, then fifth in the final in a time of 10:32, winning time was
9.75. There was joint second in the final, 3rd place was 10:29 so he missed it
by a small fraction of a second. He was very tired as he also had a 300m track
race before the final, what an amazing display of talent for a child so young the
club are very proud of him for his efforts yesterday.
Daniel Hough, a first timer and a great effort from Daniel, well done to him for
taking part against 33 children. It’s very nerve racking for the children when
there is such large numbers and its only by attending these events that they
learn to master the sprint distance, so well done to Daniel.
Danial ran in Heat 4 in a time of 12:27

U10 Girls 60m sprint
81 girls, 9 heats, 3 heats in semi-final, 9 in final winning time was 9.48
We had 4 in this category:
Eavan Lyons heat 1 – 10:84
Leyna Cussen – heat 7 – 10:41
Ava Mullane heat 4 – 11:54
Maia Fitzsimons heat 9 – 11.67
Well done to the 4 girls. It was a very tough one, standard was very high and
huge numbers. It didn’t deter them and they went on to do the 300m track race.
It was Eavan’s and Ava’s first time and they were super.

U10 Boys 60m Sprint

67 children, 8 heats, 3 heats in semi-final, and 9 children in final winning time
was 9.16
Joseph Carr, Adam Broderick and Ryan Cummins ran in times of 11.53, 10.43,
and 11:17 respectively. A great performance from the 3 boys. Adam is new to
the club and ran a great race. Joseph and Ryan represent the club time after
time at events. The standard is this race was exceptionally high, winning time
wasn’t a course record but still was very tough to come near.

U11 Girls 60m sprint
57 children took part, 7 heats, 3 semi-finals heats and then final – winning time
was 8:85
Katie Lenihan and Orla O Connor took part in this race. Katie is another club
member that runs at all events (munsters, countys , cross country). Nothing
phases her, she puts on the green and white and gives it her all consistently
time and time again. We are also delighted to see Orla back on the track and
what a difference a year has made, a super confident performance on the track
looking forward to seeing more of this in 2020.

U11 Boys 60m sprint
63 children took part, 8 heats, 3 semi-finals heats and then final winning time
was 8:98
Fergus Maharg is a new member in the club and we were delighted to see him
take part his time was 11:14. This race had an exceptional high level so Fergus
was very brave to take on this race.

U9 Girls 300m track race
23 children took part, 3 heats, winning time was 58:19
Amy took to the track again for 300m and achieved a time of 1:09:15, another
great effort from Amy first track race at just 7 years old.  She was our only
under 9 girl that took part and the club are delighted with her performance.

U9 boys 300m track race
26 children took part, 3 heats, winning time was 55:01
Danny Liston and Daniel Hough took part and their times were 1:06:89 and
1:05:19 respectively.  Again this was their first time track race so well done to
them both

U10 Girls 500m track race
51 children took part across 7 heats, winning times 1:40:19, 1:41:28, 1:41:74

We have 4 in this category:
Eavan Lyons – 1:50:35
Leyna Cussen – 1:54:81
Ava Mullane heat 4 – 2:11:14
Maia Fitzsimons heat 9 – 2:01:62
Another great performance from the 4 girls, standard was very high in this race

U10 Boy 500m track race
49 children took part across 6 heats, winning times 1:39:07, 1:39:03 , 1:39:53
Darragh Collins was in heat 4 and came first in his heat in a time of 1:40:73 and
Adam Broderick was in heat 5 and 1:50:12. A great run by both boys, Darragh
was so close, came in fifth place.

U11 Boys 600m track race
44 children took part, 6 heats, winning time was 1:54:95.
Fergus Maharg ran the longest distance of any of our club members, 600 m is a
very tough distance for a new runner and to have the courage to do this at
Munster level  as a first timer is exceptional, Well done to Fergus we were
delighted to have a member running this distance in club colours.

Long Jump
A number of the children took part in the long jump, this is fun for them and
something that distracts them from the main events. However, we have one
member Lilly Ann Cremin and the long jump is an event that she trains for, she
took part in the U11 girls long jump and came 10th out of 44. Well done to Lilly
Ann.
