UL track challenge:
Niall O’Callaghan was in action in the 3000m Saturday at the UL track meet. Niall ran a great race running a time of 9:15 finishing fifth in a strong field of runners.
Juvenile county track and field championships:
We have close to 50 athletes travelling to the university of limerick this Sunday for the county juvenile track and field championships, we wish you all the best of luck and to have fun.
Training:
Training continues every Tuesday night in the demesne, Newcastle West. Juveniles train from 6-7pm and Adults 7.10-8.10 Pm
5km training Time trial An Riocht:
Saturday last we headed to An Riocht Athletics track in Castle Island where we ran 5km Time Trials to test our speed and see how training went over lockdown. The conditions were warm, and everyone ran well.
In race 1 we had 12 runners. Top three were Con Mulcahy finishing first in a time of 22.43, Followed by Mike MacDomhnaill (22.46) and Eddie Osullivan (23.46). Results for everyone were Declan Lynch(23.50), Helen O’sullivan (23.51), Liam osullivan (24.23), Bridget Liston (24.35), Olivia Fitzgerald (27.17), Carmel Macdomhnaill (28.35), Niamh Humphries (29.06) Mary Healy (31.04) and Mary Ita O’Connor (31.04).
In race two we had 15 runners. Mike Cussin finished first in a time of 19.33, followed by Andy Quaid(19.51) and Mike Brosnahan (19.57). Results for the rest were Niall Fitzgerald (20.16), Jerry Curtin (20.20), Kevin Kelly (20.28), John J. OConnell (20.31), Shane Quill (21.07), Martin Liston (21.22), John Paul O’ Sullivan (21.34) Mark Ryan (21.40) Gerard O’Donovan (22.36), Diarmuid McCarthy (22.43), Eoghan O’Sullivan (23.54) and Paul Crotty (24.03).
In the final race of the day we had 11 runners toe the starting line. The race was fast and filled with talent and many personal bests were achieved, Coming home first was Mike Sheehy in 16.41, just footsteps behind was Karl Lenihan (16.47) and Ger Guina (17.15). Following shortly were Gary Caroll (17.19), Aogan MacDomhnaill (17.20), Sean Cunningham (17.21), Killian Lynch (17.36), John Paul O’Connell (18.02), Kevin O’Donoghue (18.49), George O’Sullivan (19.12) and Liam Hurell (19.36). It was a great day out overall and a huge success.
