West Limerick AC Adare 10K:
For many the highlight of the athletics calendar is the annual West Limerick A.C. Adare 10k. After many months of organising the 26th Adare 10k took place last Sunday and was a huge success. Even the weather was kind, bringing some welcome sunshine to the runners and volunteers.
For those who like numbers, here are a few: The race sold out in less than five days in October. We had 950 runners register. There were an exact split of 475 women and 475 men. Of those, we had 727 finishers of the race on the day.
In that mix we had Irish International and Olympic athletes. We had people trying their first 10km race. There were people from clubs all over the country and people who are not part of any club.
Kevin Maunsell set a new course record of 30:18 and Sorcha Nic Dhomhnaill won the women’s race for a second time in 36:40. The standard was exceptionally high, with the top 56 finishers under 40 minutes.

Well done to all the runners and a huge thank you to our sponsors and almost 60 volunteers. This event depends entirely on your generosity. The club gets such great support from its members and friends of the club. Without them and the race sponsors this event simply would not happen. We would also like to thank members of the gardai and red cross who provided professional support on the day. And finally a word of thanks to the local residents and race supporters.
Thank you all sincerely.
Now that the Adare 10K is over for 2020, West Limerick AC is on a high and hugely excited about hosting the County 4 Mile Championship race on March 15th.
