Coillte 10K Dundrum
 
The Coillte 10K took place in Dundrum Co.Tipperary on Wednesday evening last. Hosted by Dundrum AC this race attracts runners from all corners of the country attempting to smash their 10K personal bests on the course which is relatively flat and fast. The course takes in two 5k loops. West Limerick AC’s Declan Guina left the County Tipperary village with a new personal best over the 10k distance of 34.41. This was an excellent run by Declan on an evening when the heat posed an extra challenge for runners. Declan’s time ensured he was among the top 10 runners in the race finishing in 8th position overall. Mark Purcell was our next athlete home dipping under the 40 minute barrier to record a time of 39.58. Malachy McCarthy fresh from the Dromcollogher 4 mile only 2 nights previously finished with a time of 48.47. A number of our West Limerick ladies also ran on the night with Marcella Mcgrath crossing the finish in a time of 49.12 and Carmel Macdomhnaill finishing in 51.13 which gave Carmel first place in her category. Very well done to all.
Dromcollogher Open Sports
The Dromcollogher open sports 2018 took place on Wednesday last and it was to be a memorable evening for West Limerick AC athlete Maria Cagney. Maria took gold in 3 events the U14 100m and 600m as well as the U16 100m. Maria’s excellent performances throughout the evening led to her also been crowned best overall athlete.  Well done to Maria on her success.
Cahir Half Marathon 
Kate Murray & Paul Crotty made the trip to Cahir on Saturday where they participated in the mixed relay event . It was well worth the journey with their time of 1:47 ensuring they were first mixed relay team out of 32 teams. Well done to Kate and Paul.
 
Gneeveguilla AC 1 mile race series
 
The annual one mile race series  hosted by Gneeveguilla AC kicked off in Barraduff on Wednesday evening last with over 60 runners turning out. Colum McCarthy took up where he left off in the series last year running a time of 5.06 and winning the first race of the series. The series continues next Wednesday evening at 8pm in Fossa.
Dromcollogher 4 Mile
 
Records tumbled at the Dromcollogher 4 mile on Monday evening last with both the men’s and ladies course records being broken. Almost 200 took to the start line on a beautiful summer evening. Sean Hehir Rathfarnham WSAF AC won the race smashing the course record in the process, the Clare man crossing the line in a time of 20.06. Sorcha Nic Dhomhnaill was the first lady to finish in a time of 24.12 setting a new ladies course record in the process. Sorcha was closely followed over the line by her sister Ide. Sorcha and Ide both run with Donore Harriers and are of course daughters of West Limerick AC stalwarts Mike and Carmel who were also competing in the race.
There was a huge turnout from our club for the race with great times recorded as follows:  Sean Cunningham 23.01, Karl Lenihan 23.54, Martin Lyons 25.03, Sean O Sullivan 25.09, George O Sullivan 25.45, Denis Hayes 26.36, Michael Cussen 27.15, Fiona Bourke 27.49, Michael Guiney 28.41, Liam O Sullivan 29.37, Paul Crotty 29.39, Mike Mac Domhnaill 29.49, Gerard Donovan 30.26, Richard Lenihan 30.47, Malachy McCarthy 31.23, John Barrett 32.25, Carmel Mac Domhnaill 32.27 and Bryan Hartnett 34.43.
Newcastle West Couch To 5K
Our Couch to 5K has proved a big hit with huge numbers attending on Tuesday and Thursday night last and it’s still not too late to come and join us. The group will continue to meet every Tuesday and Thursday in the Demesne from 8pm to 9pm.The goal is that each participant will complete a 5k on Saturday September 14th.
The couch to 5k is for men and women of all abilities but specifically for those starting out or looking to get active again. The people taking part will go at their own pace. The coaches will be there to guide and encourage those taking part.
The only cost is your time.
For ages 18 and upwards.
West Limerick AC Training
Our adult training takes place in the grounds of the Desmense, Newcastle West. The Adult session is from 7pm to 8pm on Tuesday evenings. It is €2 per person for training. New members always welcome and membership forms are available at training.
Adult Training:

It is advised to have an easy 15 minute warm up done beforehand so that the training proper commences on time at 7pm. New members are always welcome to come along and try out our training.

For any county people living in the city we have a number of members who meet at the track session in UL on Tuesday nights. Warm up at 6.45 and session starts as 7.

For longer runs there are various groups that meet in the county and in the city. If you would like to meet up with anyone or need further details just contact us or ask at training.

Juvenile Training 

Juvenile training is finished for a summer break. We will return on the 14th August in the Desmense, Newcastle West and all parents/guardians will be required to be present for the duration of training. The cross country season will be the focus of training when we return.
