November Review
At the start of the month we had the Juvenile Indoor Championships in Nenagh. The U10 boys came 2nd in the relay and dominated the 500m. Michael Brosnahan won the long jump. Cian Culhane Won silver in the 1500m. Katie Campbell was 4th in the U13 shot. Chloe Brosnahan won the 600m and Grace and Sophie were 1st and 2nd in the 800m.
John O Connell won the 60km Killarney Adventure Race. John ran very well in the various cross country races for West Limerick also.
We had our AGM and it was a good year with membership just over 200 between Juvenile and Adults. Its worth remembering that adult membership in 2012 was 64.
Norman Paddle ran the Athens marathon and kept the international flavour to West Limerick.
In the Munster Senior XC Eoin McAuliffe ran the senior men .in underage we were represented by Darragh Lynch,Grace, Kate Downes and Cian.
The big race was the Senior County Cross Country hosted by West Limerick in Dan Cahills farm in Newcastle West. Conditions were tough but it didnt stop Mike Carmody of An Bru gliding around to victory. Limerick AC continued their fine team form to win the mens race decisively. Tracey Johnson led Dooneen home with a brilliant race to win 1st individual and first team.
We didnt win the cups on the day but I doubt that anyone who competed will forget the day. The ground was soft but the people running were tough. West Limerick had a large turnout with 10 ladies and 13 men competing on the day. There was great support on the day as well. We’ll have to try harder for 2016.
Carmel represented Ireland in Cross Country in Santry and won team silver. Not content with that she also won a team in the county senior the following day.
Denis Hayes finished 2nd to Mike Curly Cunningham in the Shanagolden 5 mile while in Listowel Niamh,Noelle,Ide Curtin and Tara Carr ran the Half Marathon. It was great to see Tara back running after some time off. Brendan O Carroll ran the Sixmilebridge half marathon.
At the Triathlon Ireland Awards Carolyn cleaned up. She won the big prize on the night as is the Triathlete Of the year 2015. A huge personal honour for Carolyn and one that her friends in the club are delighted to see her win.
The final Ul 5k race series saw Ger Guina finish first in 16.31. Declan Guina had an excellent pb of 18.04. Also running in this race and most of the race series were George, Carmel, Jeni and Trish.
Masters XC was held in Cappawhite Co Tipp. We fielded a mens and ladies team. Well done to new team captains Declan and Martina on the arm twisting. Running on the day were Carmel, Mary, Dympna, Anne Marie, Fiachra, Liam, John O Shea and James. Grace O Donnell ran in the Juvenile on the same day.
Finally at the County Schools Cross Country we had a big turnout of 11 club members. Well done to all.
