It is a landmark day for athletics in Limerick and the surrounding areas. Limerick City and County Council have announced that construction is to begin on the Newcastle West Regional Athletics Hub soon and work is to be completed by Autumn 2021.
The new Regional Athletics Hub on the Cork Road will include the construction of an athletics track to international World Athletics standard, floodlights and all associated track facilities, which will have disability access.
The possibilities for us as a club and for the community as a whole are endless. Our juvenile and adult members are going to have world class facilities to prepare on, to be the best athletes that they can be.
We would not be at this stage without the massive workload undertaken by Limerick Council, our elected representatives and the steering committee. The steering committee is led by Jim Galvin and was supported by many members including our own Liam Healy and Dan Cahill. West Limerick A.C. thank everyone for their hard work on this project so far.
A preview of the new facility is just below and you can read about it on the council website here
Whatever happens over the next few months we will have a world class facility to look forward to in 2021.
You can renew your club membership here or you may have the renewal email already.
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year from West Limerick A.C.
