We at West Limerick A.C. had the pleasure of hosting the County 4 mile road race on Sunday the 8th of August. We had a fantastic turnout with 12 women and 22 men taking to the start line.
The women’s race took off at 12:30pm and the men’s took place an hour later at 1:30pm. After a night of rain the sun began to shine allow for perfect weather to run in. The first senior lady home was Katarzyna Bobka of An Bru A.C in 27:22 Followed closely by team mate Catriona Farrell in 27:31 and Karen Raine of Doneen A.C in 28:13. Each member of our ladies team had excellent runs with Kate Downes running a time of 31:23, followed closely by Corinna Sheedy in 31:50, next up we had Tara Carr (32:43), Monica Kiernan (33:36), Bridget Liston (34:26), Carmel MacDomhnaill (35:33), Lee- Anne Bond (43:51), Mary Ita O’Connor (44:59), Mary Healy (45:00), Phyllis Barry (47:11) and Terri Hannigan (47:12). Our lady’s teams were second and third home in the novice division and first, second and third O50 team.
The men’s race was filled with top quality athletes and competition was very strong. Niall Shanahan of An Bru A.C took home gold in a time of 19:57. Our own men had fantastic results as follows: Niall O’Callaghan second place overall (20:49), Karl Lenihan (21:58), Mike Sheehy (22:02), Killian Lynch (22:41), Gerard Guina (22:58), Aogan MacDomhnaill (23:10), Mark Lenihan (24:13), Sean O’Sullivan (24:36), Liam Hurell (25:26), Jerry Curtin (26:23), Kevin O’Donoghue (26:27), George O’Sullivan (26:41), Noel Fitzgerald (28:07), Martin Liston (28:50), Mike MacDomhnaill (30:16), Con Mulcahy (30:56), Declan Lynch (31:10), Mark Ryan (31:27), Liam O’Sullivan (31:36), Edward O’Sullivan (32:37), Jamie Singleton (32:50), John Barrett (33:08), Mike Cussen (35:33), Malachy McCarthy (36:12), John O’ Connell (36:58) and Gerard O’ Donovan (36:58). The senior men’s team took home first place and the cup.
