Summer Races & International Triathlon – July Review 2015

JurgenJuly Review

The summer months proved to be quite busy with lots of road races and some West Limerick members taking part in other big events also.

We started the month with a 5 mile held by An Brú AC. They hosted an excellent race with 199 people taking part. We had 11 members taking part. It was great to see Mark Purcell back on the road again after a long break due to injury.

The following day 4 runners headed to Clare for a 10k with Gary Wilmott finishing 20th out of nearly 700 entrants. Mary Folan Ryan was 2nd in her category on the day.

Carolyn Hayes represented Ireland again in an elite international triathlon race in Holland and followed it up with defending/winning the National Aquathlon Championship.

While closer to home Will Brosnahan had a very impressive triathlon appearance in Athlone and we also had 9 members take part in the Ring of Kerry Charity cycle.

A very well attended and high quality race was the Dromcollogher 4 mile race. Won by local man Aoghan MacDomhnaill in 20.46. West Limerick had 21 runners on the day led home by the in form Niall O Riordan. Rita Brouder made her return to action also . It was a very enjoyable race and one to mark in the calendar for 2016.

Liam and Declan braved very challenging conditions to complete the Bandon Bay Half Marathon while in Portarlington Kevin Kelly set a great half marathon pb of 1 hour 30.

In Cahir,Co.Tipp 8 club members did a half marathon. Richard Lenihan was first home and Martina set a half marathon pb on the day also.

In the area of Multi Sport David Richardson and Kevin Kelly completed the Lough Derg sprint triathlon. David finished first place overall. Aaron O Brien was back in the water winning the Thomond swim.

Norman Paddle competed and completed both the half marathon in Portarlington and the Killarney Marathon. Gary was in Monaghan running a very good 10 mile race and Dec Guina was in Cork for a 3000m track race.

Our Juvenile members were busy at the Munster Track and Field in Ennis. Sophie Moroney, Grace O Donnell, Chloe Brosnahan, Timmy Colbert, Michael Brosnahan and Orla Coughlan competed on the day and represented the club excellently as always.
