About Us
West Limerick AC was founded in the Summer of 1979.
Two athletes John Barrett and Mike Mac Domhnaill were running as individuals in a cross-country race and were signed up by Father LIam Kelleher to run with Dromcollogher AC in 1978.
John & Mike had thought of forming a club in Newcastle West. They invited other local clubs to a meeting in the Central Bar, Newcastle West. Abbeyfeale was represented by Christy Cullinane, Rathkeale was represented by Mike Hanley, Dromcollogher was represented by Fr Kelleher and Tullylease was represented by Mike Callaghan. And so on that Summers Day 1979 West Limerick AC was formed.
The club went on to win the Munster Novice x/c that year. Scoring were Mike Mac Domhnaill, Pat Mc Carthy(Rathkeale), Donie Buckley(Tullylease) and Martin Stack(Dromcollogher).
Both John Barrett and Mike Mac Domhnaill also served on the County Board in those early years as treasurer/registrar.
