Dublin Marathon 2018
The 39th SSE Airtricty Dublin Marathon took place on Sunday with the streets of Ireland’s capital city packed to capacity with runners and their many supporters. Sunday was the final leg of a journey that was months in the making for the many athletes who took up the 26.2 mile challenge. There were many sacrifices and a lot of hard work to finally get to the marathon start line on Sunday.
West Limerick AC as always had a sizeable representation at the Marathon ranging from first timers to seasoned marathon runners none more so than Seamus Cawley who remarkably has been at the start line for every Dublin Marathon to date.
Each and every one of our athletes performed brilliantly with great times recorded throughout.
Mark Lenihan was our first athlete over the finish line smashing through the 3hr barrier to record a new personal best time of 2:58:34. Mark was very closely followed by Martin Lyons running another sub 3 hour in a time of 2:58:48. Kieran Carr was our next athlete home in 3:23:32 followed by Declan McCarthy 3:25:02, Seamus Cawley 3:37:06, Jonathan Scanlon 4:00:30, Paul Crotty 4:18:41 and Derek Mackessy 4:40:40.
Caroline Conroy led home the West Limerick ladies in another excellent time of 3:19:44. This was a personal best for Caroline and positioned here in 29th out of 1,328 in her category. Catriona Lenihan capped off a great year with a time of 3:55:46 crossing the line with club mate Paula Collins 3:55:52. Next home was Joanne Maharg 3:56:10, Marcella Mcgrath 3:57:09, Suzanne Kennedy 4:01:12, Mary Folan Ryan 4:16:31 and another marathon first timer Niamh Humphreys in 4:51:02
Well done to all our athletes who represented the club so well. 26.2 miles of running is some achievement and each and everyone of you should be very proud. It always seems impossible until it is done. West Limerick ABÚ
