John Buckley 5k
The John Buckley 5k took place in Cork city last Wednesday and we had 5 of our west limerick athletes travel down to take part in this very popular race. There was a grand turnout of over 950 runners that took part on the night.
Niall Shanahan from An Bru took the win in a time of 14.51 and first woman home was Niamh Moore in 18.08.
Ian Kelly continued his flying form completing the 5k race in 16.51, followed closely by Declan Guina in 17.17, Kevin O’Donoghue In 19.41, George O’Sullivan 19.50 and Catriona Lenihan 19.53.
Well done to all in a fantastic and well organised race. Great running.
Kilmallock 4 mile
The Kilmallock 4 mile took place Friday night and over 170 runners took part in this event which is part of the ballyhoura active series. The race was won by Declan more of Bilboa Ac in 20.09. We had 2 west limerick members take part. Karl Lenihan had a great race completing the 4 mile in 22.36 earning him 9th place in the overall race and Malachy McCarthy finished in 32.43. Great running. Well done to both.
Munster Track and Field
Well done to our 5 West Limerick AC juvenile club members that took part in the Munster track and field U9 to U11 in CIT today. They all ran excellent once again. Members were Leyna Cussen , Rafe Cussen, Josh Cummins, Ryan Cummins and Ciara Lanigan. Thanks to the parents for traveling to and supporting the event.
Newcastle West Community Games
West Limerick AC juveniles had a great day at the Newcastlewest Community games lots of gold , sliver and bronze medals . A big thanks to the community games committee for such a successful day . Our members taking part were Nessa Carr, Joseph Carr, Andrea Carr , Neasa Reidy, Aideen Reidy, Josh Cummins , Ryan Cummins , Luke Cummins, Ciara Lanigan, Darcy O’ Brien, Nate Collins Leyna Cussen, Rafe Cussen , Saoirse O Donoghue , Rosin O Donoghue , Fiadh O Donoghue , Tristan Kirwan and Emily Kirwan. I hope I haven’t forgotten any names! Well done to you all
Lough Cultra half marathon.
Well done to Niamh Humphries who ran the Lough Cultra Half Marathon in 2:24.
The Michael and Brenda Nolan memorial 5k run/walk
The Michael and Brenda Nolan 5k took place Sunday in Shanagolden and there was a large turnout to support this well organised event.
The race was won by Eddie O’Connor from listowel Ac in 16.11 and first woman home was Hikka Kontra from limerick Ac in 18.40.
We had a large representation from west limerick out in force also with Martin Liston leading the men home in 19.24, followed by Michael guiney 19.38, Mike MacDomhnaill 20.38, Con mulcahy 21.16, Gerard donovan 21.21 and John Barrett 22.34.
Dympna Lawlor was the first west limerick woman home in 22.10 which earned her prize in her age category. She was followed by Edel Henriques 23.04, Ray mulcahy 22.05, Bryan Hartnett 23.19, kate murray 23.49, Carmel MacDomhnaill 24.36, caroline Conroy 24.36, Tara Carr 25.05 and Majella O’Connor In 30.03.
Great turnout and great running.

Juvenile Training
Due to the large numbers of juvenile members attending training on Tuesdays and Thursdays we will have closed registration to new juvenile members We have reached full capacity in our current facilities and in coaching ratios. We are currently looking for parents and/or people in West Limerick with an interest in athletics to obtain Garda Vetting and get involved with coaching in the club so that we can support our current coaches and offer more training to juveniles in our area. We need your help if we are to continue our juvenile training. West Limerick A.C. will pay for all necessary courses once a commitment is made to join the club and help in the juvenile section of our club.
Our current coaches are Mike Cussen, Tara Carr and Kevin O Donoghue along with assistant coaches Aogan MacDomhnaill, Aine Mawe and Micheal Rowsome.
2019 registration
2019 West Limerick AC registration is still open for adults (over 19) and juveniles , all registration and payments are now online, all members are requested to complete the on line form and make the payment electronically. Adult membership (over 19’s) is €35 and Juvenile membership is €25. The club is no longer using paper forms and/ or cash transactions. Full details and link to registration are on our website, Facebook and Twitter pages.
Payment for club gear can also be made through the online account.
Adult Training
Senior training for West Limerick AC members continues each Tuesday evening at 7pm on the Astro turf in the Desmene Newcastle West. You must be registered before you can train. There are no exceptions. The €2 fee remains. Non athletics Ireland members will not be allowed take part for insurance reasons. This goes for Juvenile, Fit4Life and Interval training. If you are not a member of the club you will not be allowed train with the club.
AAI Permit Races
In a bid to highlight AAI permit races to athletes we are trying to put a list of permitted races together.

September 15th or 22nd – Novice, Masters and Even age Juveniles XC
Limerick Mini Marathon – Sept 29th – Limerick
October 13th – Senior, Intermediate and Uneven Juveniles XC.
