Club Notes 23/01/2019
Carolyn Hayes was representing Ireland in the Home Countries International Cross Country race last weekend in Belfast . This was Carolyn’s first Athletics Ìreland appearance and she did fantastic in this 8k ladies race ranking in 30th place in a very strong competitive field of runners.
The event was part of the IAAF Northern Ireland International Cross Country race.
This was a great honour for both Carolyn and West Limerick A.C.. To have a senior international runner in our club is a huge inspiration to all of us. Carolyn becomes only our fourth senior international after Barbara Johnson, Pat McCarthy and John Scanlan.
A regular Triathlon Ireland international this was Carolyn’s 1st Athletics Ireland appearance.
Munster Juveniles Inter Club Relays:
The Munster club relays took place in Nenagh on Sunday 20th January and there was a great turnout of our juvenile athletes representing West Limerick AC. There were 4 relay teams and each and every one ran very well on the day. The U13 juvenile male relay team ran a very strong race missing the final heat by only split second but ranking them 5th place overall in Munster. Fantastic to see so many of the clubs young athletes travelling and competing with such a strong field from all over Munster. Well done to everyone.
2019 West Limerick AC registration is now open for adults (over 19) and juveniles , all registration and payments are now online, all members are requested to complete the on line form and make the payment electronically. We are delighted to welcome Ger Cremin as our new adult head coach. Ger has a wealth of athletics experience and enthusiasm to get us moving faster as we aim for our new year goals. As a club we will be aiming for County 4 mile and Munster 4 mile championship races in particular. There is also our Adare 10k and the Great Limerick Run. Training plans will be available on request for club members.
There were no road races this past week but we did have a number of members running in the Parkruns in Newcastle West, Mungret and Limerick. These free timed 5k runs are great for getting active.
Analog Devices Adare 10k 2019
The Analog Devices Adare 10K 2019 sold out in October and there are no more entries available. Last year we had nearly fifty volunteers and we will need the same again for this race. The 25th anniversary of our road race will take place on Sunday February 24th at 1pm. As this is our 25th anniversary we are looking forward to welcoming back our previous male and female winners from past races.
We are looking for members and friends of West Limerick A.C. to volunteer for our main club fundraiser. In 2018 we had 20 volunteers for number collection and 50 volunteers for race day. We will need the same again for this year. The race is on Sunday February 24th. All help is greatly appreciated. Please contact Kevin O Donoghue email@example.com if you are available to volunteer. Many hands make lighter work.
