Kildare Thoroughbred Run 2018
Three West Limerick AC athletes made the trip to Kildare on Sunday to take part in the Kildare Thoroughbred Run 2018. There was a choice of events from 5K all the way up to marathon distance. Paul Crotty, Marcella McGrath and Kate Murray all ran in the half marathon event. The weather was mainly dry and the course was reasonably flat with a few drags. Paul Crotty recorded a new half marathon pb covering the 13.1 mile distance in 1:39:17. Marcella And Kate also ran very well crossing the line in 1:47:37 and 1:54:59 respectively. Well done to all and it is great to see the green and white of West Limerick AC appear at races all over the country.

Bilboa 10K

The Ger Mullane memorial 10K and 5K took place on Friday night last. Hosted by Bilboa AC this event again attracted a large number of participants this year. The 10K event was won in style by local Bilboa athlete Declan Moore. We had 3 runners in the 10K event.  First West Limerick AC man home in the 10K was new member Micheal Guiney from shanagolden in 43:17. Michael was followed  by Bryan Hartnett in 48:34 and Malachy McCarthy 49:10. Malachy also took 2nd place in his category. Well done to all.

Coolagown 5K

Ian Kelly and Mark Lenihan travelled to Coolagown on Thursday evening last to take part in the local 5k event. Conditions on the evening were favourable for running and the course itself although it contained one testing hill was relatively fast overall. Both Ian and Mark ran well on the night with Ian crossing the line in 17:58 followed very closely by Mark in 18:21. Mark recorded a new personal best on the night and continues to make very good progress over the last few months.
Athletics Ireland Assistant Coaching Course

We had 8 members from the club complete the Athletics Ireland Assistant Coaching Course on Sunday. This course was organised by West Limerick A.C. with great help from tutor Liam Kelly and regional development officer Lilly Ann O Hara.
From the club were Aogan MacDomhnaill , Aine Mawe , Niamh Mulcahy, Maeve Kenrick , Tara Carr, Kevin O Donoghue , Liam Hurrell and Micheal Rowsome.
It is great to have 8 newly trained coaches to assist with the development of our underage athletes especially with the Newcastle West Regional Athletics Hub on the horizon.

It is for 12 weeks. It will start on Tuesday June 19th at 8pm in the Demesne, Newcastle West. The group will meet every Tuesday and Thursday in the Demesne from 8pm to 9pm. The goal is that each participant will complete a 5k on Saturday September 14th.
This is for men and women of all abilities but specifically for those starting out or looking to get active again. The people taking part will go at their own pace. The coaches will be there to guide and encourage those taking part.
The only cost is your time.
For ages 18 and upwards.
5k Charity Family Run/Walk
Club member Mary Ita O Connor is organising a 5k charity run/walk in the ground of the Desmense, Newcastle West on Sunday 24th June 2018 at 11am. All proceeds from this event will go to Parkinson’s Ireland. Mary Ita was diagnosed with Parkinson’s at a young age but this has not stopped her from taking part in weekly park runs in Newcastle West as well as numerous other events. Mary Ita is an inspirational member of our club and your support on the day would be appreciated.
