Castleisland 10mile and 5k

The 10mile and 5k took place in Castleisland on Sunday which saw over 400 runners take part in this popular race organised by An Riocht.

 Weather conditions were challenging with strong blustery winds but there were some great performances from all our athletes. In the 5k Ian Kelly had an excellent performance and crossed the finish line in 17:37 giving him 4th place overall and 1st in his age category. He was followed by Mark Lenihan in 18.15, Colm McCarthy 18.20, Catriona Lenihan 20:50 and Maeve Kenrick In 24.20.

In the 10 mile Kevin Kelly lead west limerick home in a great time of 110.08. He was followed by Gerard Hanlon 1:11:01, Derek Kenrick 1:12:47, Con Mulcahy 1:14:31, Edel henriques 1:17:08, Paula Collins 1:17:45, Mary-Folan Ryan 1:18:28, Kate murray 1:18:49, Ray Mulcahy 123:35, Declan Lynch 1:26:28 and John G Collins 1:29:06.Excellent running by all.

Dromina 10

The Dromina 10 Mile made a return to this years race calendar. There was also a 10k as part of this event.

The 10k was won by Mark Walsh of Leevale AC in 34:21.

The 10 mile was the big event of the day. Recent Adare 10k winner Rory O Connor of North Cork AC was the clear winner in 53:55. Our own Declan Guina was 2nd in 58.13. Our other members running on the day were Seamus Cawley 1:18:27 and Malacky McCarthy 1:28:46

Michael Rejmer Run series 5 mile

The first race of the Michael Rejmer series returned Friday night and there was a large turnout of athletes for this very popular event which continues for three weeks.

We had a number of west limerick representatives take part in the race. Don Ryan completed the 5 mile in 34.13. He was followed by Caroline Conroy who was 3rd female overall and 1st in her age category in a great time of 34.33. Following was Andrew Mcnamara in 34.46, Shane Quille 35.52, Sheila Clavin 37.33 and Audrey O’Dwyer in 40.43.

Excellent running well done everyone.

Juvenile Training

Due to the large numbers of juvenile members attending training on Tuesdays and Thursdays we will have closed registration to new juvenile members We have reached full capacity in our current facilities and in coaching ratios. We are currently looking for parents and/or people in West Limerick with an interest in athletics to obtain Garda Vetting and get involved with coaching in the club so that we can support our current coaches and offer more training to juveniles in our area. We need your help if we are to continue our juvenile training. West Limerick A.C. will pay for all necessary courses once a commitment is made to join the club and help in the juvenile section of our club.

Our current coaches are Mike Cussen, Tara Carr and Kevin O Donoghue along with assistant coaches Aogan MacDomhnaill, Aine Mawe and Micheal Rowsome.

2019 registration

2019 West Limerick AC registration is still open for adults (over 19) and juveniles , all registration and payments are now online, all members are requested to complete the on line form and make the payment electronically. Adult membership (over 19’s) is €35 and Juvenile membership  is €25.  The club is no longer using paper forms  and/ or  cash transactions. Full details and link to registration are on our website, Facebook and Twitter pages.

Payment for club gear can also be made through the online account.

Adult Training

Senior training for West Limerick AC members continues each Tuesday evening at 7pm on the Astro turf in the Desmene Newcastle West. You must be registered before you can train. There are no exceptions. The €2 fee remains. Non athletics Ireland members will not be allowed take part for insurance reasons. This goes for Juvenile, Fit4Life and Interval training. If you are not a member of the club you will not be allowed train with the club.

AAI Permit Races

In a bid to highlight AAI permit races to athletes we are trying to put a list of permitted races together.

Upcoming Permitted Races:

Great Limerick Run – May 5th – Limerick

10th Anniversary Banna 10k Run and 5k Fun Run, Sunday,  4th August at 9:30 a.m..

September 15th or 22nd – Novice, Masters and Even age Juveniles XC

Limerick Mini Marathon – Sept 29th – Limerick

October 13th – Senior, Intermediate and Uneven Juveniles XC.
