Streets of Galway 8K
The 33rd edition of the famous streets of Galway 8k took place on Saturday. Since it’s inception in 1986 the event has grown into one of the top races in the country with attendances ranging from 2,500 to 3,000 athletes. West Limerick AC had three athletes competing in the race. Mark Lenihan continued his excellent form and progress in 2018 finishing in a time of 29:47. This was another personal best for Mark and breaking  the 30 minute barrier is a significant milestone over the 5 mile distance. Catriona Lenihan has also had some very good races recently and ran a great race again in Galway crossing the line in a time of 36:00. Carmel Mac domhnaill also competed on the night running a time of 40:39 to finish well up the final race rankings. Well done to all.
Mitchelstown GR8KM
A number of club members made the trip to Mitchelstown, Co.Cork on Friday for the annual GR8KM road race hosted by Galtee runners. A total of 235 runners took to the start line on a course that overall was pretty favourable with not too much in the way of hills. Martina Ahern ran a personal best on the night covering the 5 miles in a time of 38:47. Martina picked up 2nd in her category for her efforts. Mike Cussen was our first runner to finish coming home in a time of 31:24. Sean O Sullivan had another strong run clocking 32:20 and Sean was followed by Liam O Sullivan in 36:11.
