Streets of Galway 8K
The 33rd edition of the famous streets of Galway 8k took place on Saturday. Since it’s inception in 1986 the event has grown into one of the top races in the country with attendances ranging from 2,500 to 3,000 athletes. West Limerick AC had three athletes competing in the race. Mark Lenihan continued his excellent form and progress in 2018 finishing in a time of 29:47. This was another personal best for Mark and breaking the 30 minute barrier is a significant milestone over the 5 mile distance. Catriona Lenihan has also had some very good races recently and ran a great race again in Galway crossing the line in a time of 36:00. Carmel Mac domhnaill also competed on the night running a time of 40:39 to finish well up the final race rankings. Well done to all.
Mitchelstown GR8KM
A number of club members made the trip to Mitchelstown, Co.Cork on Friday for the annual GR8KM road race hosted by Galtee runners. A total of 235 runners took to the start line on a course that overall was pretty favourable with not too much in the way of hills. Martina Ahern ran a personal best on the night covering the 5 miles in a time of 38:47. Martina picked up 2nd in her category for her efforts. Mike Cussen was our first runner to finish coming home in a time of 31:24. Sean O Sullivan had another strong run clocking 32:20 and Sean was followed by Liam O Sullivan in 36:11.
Liscarroll Open Sports
Well done to Maria Cagney who competed in the Liscarroll open sports on Sunday taking 2nd place in the 600m.
Curraghchase 10K 2018
The Curraghchase 10K run/walk 2018 takes place on Saturday 18th August around the picturesque woodland area of Curraghchase forest park. Newcastle West Couch To 5K
Our Couch to 5K is going very well with big numbers each week. Everyone is enjoying it and the progress since day 1 has been exceptional. The group will continue to meet every Tuesday and Thursday in the Demesne from 8pm to 9pm.The goal is that each participant will complete a 5k in September. The 5K has now been chosen and will be the An Ríocht 5K in Castleisland on September 7th
Cross Country Season
The cross country season is approaching quickly and this year West Limerick AC will be hosting the Senior, intermediate and uneven ages on Saturday October 6th in the Desmense, Newcastle West. The start time of this event is to be confirmed. Bilboa AC will be hosting the novice, masters and even ages on Sunday October 14th. Only registered club members can participate in these championship events.
Adult Training:
Our Tuesday night senior training sessions in the Desmense will return on the 4th of September after the summer break.
Club Meeting
Our next club meeting will take place on Wednesday August 29th at The Rathkeale House Hotel. All club members are welcome and encouraged to attend.
