Tom Walsh Memorial 10k run & 5m Walk

The Tom Walsh Memorial 10k race took place in Caherconlish at 12 noon today. Weather conditions were nice and mild and there was a fine turnout of over 150 runners to support this race which was very well organised. The race was won by Brian Maher in a record breaking time of 30.36. We had a nice crew of our west limerick members out to get the new year off to a flying start. Michael guiney flew in in a great time of 42.47 followed by Caroline Conroy who finished 43.30. Edel Henriques made a welcome return finishing in 49.39. She was followed by Brian Hartnett in 55.46 and Michelle Lenihan In 100.28. Great start to the new year and fantastic day out. Well done to everyone

International Honours:

We were delighted to learn that club member Carolyn Hayes has been selected by Athletics Ireland to represent Ireland in the upcoming Home Countries International Cross Country race on Janurary 19th in Belfast. This follows Carolyn’s excellent showing in the national cross country before Christmas. The event will be part of the IAAF Northern Ireland International Cross Country race.

This is a great honour for both Carolyn and West Limerick A.C.. To have a senior international runner in our club is a huge inspiration to all of us.

It promises to be an amazing experience as athletes such as Kenya’s Pauline Kamulu , the fastest woman over 10000m in 2018 are also competing.

Best of luck Carolyn Hayes
