West Limerick AC
Ballycotton
The famous Ballycotton 10 mile race was held on Sunday. Our own John Scanlan was once one of the elite runners there and still has some of the best West Limerick course times in Ballycotton. This year we had six members compete in the race. First home in a great time of 55:57 was Fiachra Macdomhnaill to finish 33rd overall. An outstanding run that builds upon his race in Adare. Our other members were George O Sullivan 1:07:36, Noel Kennedy 1:17:40, Carmel MacDomhnaill 1:20:58, Kevin Kelly 1:30:32 and Joanne Kelly 1:35:31. Well done to all. Mallow looks the be the next large race on our racing calendar with a large crowd heading to the 10 mile race.
County & Munster 4 Mile Races
The upcoming Munster 4 mile novice, senior and masters road championships will take place on Sunday April 3rd at a Co.Clare venue. Our Limerick County 4 mile Novice and Senior championships are on April 10th and will be hosted by An Bru AC. last years race was hosted exceptionally well and you can expect the same this year. The womens race is down to start at 11am and will be followed by the mens at 11:30am. Please contact team captains Declan Guina and Martina Ahern to confirm availability. Championship races are very important and it is imperative that we get our best teams available out on the day. Your entry to the races is covered by the club but you must have your 2016 membership paid up.
Club Gear
Liam Healy has new club gear available in various sizes. There are new hoodies available at €35 and new Beanie Hats at €10. Liam also has all current training gear and new waterproof gear on the way.
Training
Juvenile training is from 6pm to 7pm on Tuesday at the Newcastle West GAA All Weather Pitch. Children from the age of 6 upwards can train but must be 8 to compete at events. Adults meet to warm up at 6.45pm and train from 7pm to 8pm at the same venue. Training costs €2 for all adult club members and is free for the juvenile members. Membership forms are available on the night. We strongly advise everyone that trains with us to consider joining the club as the very low membership of €30 covers you for insurance while you train for and compete with West Limerick AC at AAI permitted events. If you are a member of another athletics club and wish to train on Tuesday you are welcome to train with us.
Fit For Life
Our fit for life group will meet at the Courtney Boy’s school @ 6:45pm on Tuesday and Thursdays from 6th Oct. Our fit for life group is a great introduction to running with a very welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Don’t be shy, new members to the group are always welcome and anyone who wants a bit more information can contact Denis Fitzgerald on 087 3577286 or Sinead O’Shea on 087 2976014.
Membership
Membership for 2016 is €30 and is now overdue. If you are competing for West Limerick you will need to pay membership. For new members forms are available at training. Existing members just need to pay the subscription to a committee member. The earlier that you pay your membership the more events that you will be able to part in.
Your membership also covers you for insurance when taking part in club training. The membership is extremely good value for money and we would strongly encourage every person that takes part in the club training to join for the 2016.
