Munster Intermediate Cross Country
Held in Clarecastle , Co.Clare this past Sunday. Well done to Captain Declan Guina on sending the mens team of Kevin Kelly, Eoin MacAuliffe, Dave Richardson and Declan himself. It turned out to be a very positive day with both Declan and Dave making the county team which finished first and claimed the gold medals.
Munster Juvenile B Cross Country
This event was hosted in the same location as the Adult races. Timmy Colbert ran an excellent race and finished strongly in the last 200m to finish in eight place and claimed a medal. Maria Cagney stepped up to the U13 age group with some very strong competition and finished in the top twenty. Sophie Moroney raced in the U17. Sophie started very strongly and held a good position throughout the race and came home in eight position. Well done to all.
Birdhill Half Marathon
This event had a 5km, 10km and Half-marathon. We were represented in the half marathon by Niall O Riordan 1:17:57, Mike Sheehy 1:21:24 (PB), Brendan O Carroll 1:36:59 and Dympna Lawlor 1:52:19. Niall was in second place overall, while Mike was fourth overall and first in his category. Some excellent running in Tipperary by West Limerick AC members.
Waterford Half Marathon
Well done to Edel Henriques 1:39:04, Paul Crotty 1:44:59, Jeni O Regan 1:54 and Gary Wilmott 1:26:48 on completing this very popular race. It is great to see Gary back racing in club colours and he had an excellent race.
East of Ireland Marathon Series
Congratulations to Derek Mackessy on completing back to back marathons this past Friday and Saturday in Howth , Co.Dublin. Derek continues to clock up the marathons and on present form could pass the 200 marathon mark in 2017.
Jingle Bells 5k
Organised by Donore Harriers, this race is a high quality event. Well done to new ladies team captain Carmel MacDomhnaill on competing with the Elite athletes in the capital. Well done to past member Sorcha Nic Dhomhnaill (Carmels daughter) on finished 6th lady in 17.04. It is always good to see a West Limerick woman running so well.
Church Gate Collection:
West Limerick AC would like to thank the people of Newcastle West and surrounding areas for their generous donations at last weekends collection. The money raised goes towards the running of the club for the year ahead. Thank you to the members who helped at the weekend. Jobs are made alot easier when people are readily available to help out.
Fit4Life
The Fit4Life group meet at 18:45 on Tuesday evenings . Everyone is to meet at the Courtney Boys National School in Newcastle West and start from there. Please wear reflective clothing as the evenings are dark and you need to be safe and be seen.
Tuesday Night Training:
Please note that all club training takes place on the Newcastle West GAA all weather pitch on Tuesday nights.
Juveniles are from 6pm to 7pm. Parents are asked to accompany their children into the all weather pitch and collect from the same spot after.
Adults are training on the all weather pitch from 7pm to 8pm. Please have your warm up done beforehand. The session begins at 7pm sharp.
It is €2 per person for the adult session. There is no charge for the Juvenile session. This charge I for the lights and not connected to membership.
New and returning members are always welcome in both Juvenile and Adult training. The interval sessions are a good way to stay fit and increase your speed during the winter months in a safe well light area.
Juvenile training will take winter holidays after the session on December 13th and returning in January. Adult session will be decided after training on Tuesday 6th December.
Membership:
We are now taking membership for 2017. Adult membership is €30. Juvenile Membership is €20 for each individual member.
Membership covers you by insurance while club training and in all aai permit races. It also covers your cost in selected championship races.
Forms available at training or can be emailed to you also. A copy of birth certificate for Juvenile members is necessary.
If you are not a member of the club you are not covered by insurance.
