West Limerick Ac Notes 2/10/16
Limerick Senior Cross Country Championship
This past Sunday all athletes from around the county descended on the University of Limerick for the Adult races in the Senior cross country championship races. The day itself was an ideal autumn day for a run with blue skies and sunshine. Once on the move the temperature was surprisingly warm. The ladies race was off first and Dooneen Ac dominated the race. Rosemary Ryan showed that class is permanent with a commanding run to claim first place. Jessica Coyne was in second and Caitriona Farrell of An Bru ran very well to finish third. West Limerick were lead home with a very strong run from Fiona Bourke in 6th place. We finished with team silver medals. Along with Fiona were Ailbhe Dempsey, Edel Henriques, Anna Marie O Keeffe and Carmel McDomhnaill.
The mens race had 37 entrants. Mike Carmody of An Bru retained his title from 2015 with a brilliant race to finish ahead of Limerick Marathon winner Martin Doody (Limerick AC). Declan Moore (Bilboa AC) who has been in great form in 2016 finished strongly in third place. Our club captain Declan Guina showed his continued improvement to finish in seventh place and first club man home. He was followed by Fiachra MacDomhnaill, Ger Guina, Martin Lyons, Eoin McAuliffe, Kevin O Donoghue, Jonathan Scanlan and Gerard Dore. The mens team finished with team bronze.
Well done to all from the club who participated and supported. Thank you to club captains Martina Ahern and Declan Guina for the effort they put in to get the teams out on the day.
