West Limerick Ac Notes 16-Oct 2016

Intermediate and Masters Cross Country

Bilboa AC hosted some excellent races this past Sunday. Performance of the day went to Gary Egan of An Bru AC who won both the mens Intermediate and Masters race.
From a West Limerick perspective we had some good performances in the ladie’s and men’s races. Ailbhe Dempsey was 5th in the Intermediate race. Fiona Bourke was 3rd overall in Masters and 2nd in her category. This followed up a strong outing from Fiona in the County Senior race.
In the mens Intermediate race we had Declan Guina 5th, Liam Hurrell 15th, Kevin Kelly 22nd, Shane Quille 23rd and Jonathan Scanlan 27th. In the mens Masters race we had Ger Guina 4th overall and 3rd in category, Liam Hurrell 4th in category, Shane Quille 8th in category, Kevin Kelly 4th in category and Jonathan Scanlan 8th in category.
The mens teams were 4th in both team events.
This race concluded the County Championship Cross Country races. Thank you to everyone who ran for the club in underage, Novice, Intermediate, Senior and Masters levels. Thank you also to club captains Martina Ahern and Declan Guina for there effort in getting athletes out in each race.

Uneven Age Cross Country

Bilboa AC also hosted the uneven age group races. Our Under 17 girls team were gold medal winners. Our team was Grace O Donnell, Sinead Woulfe , Kate Downes & Sophie Moroney. The girls are great role models  for the other younger girls at training. When lots of the same age group are stepping back from sport it is great to see this group running so well.

U11 Boys
Timmy Colbert ran well to claim bronze in 3rd place with club mate Darragh Lynch finishing in 7th place.

Fit4Life

The Fit4Life group will return to training next Tuesday evening the 18th October at 18:45. Everyone is to meet at the Courtney Boys National School in Newcastle West and start from there.
Fit4Life Trainer Denis Fitzgerald will be starting a couch to 5k also. For people starting out or returning to some running, anyone looking to improve their health or meet some new people this session is ideal. You can train together in groups suited to whatever level of ability you have and enjoy yourself while doing it.

Parkrun Newcastle West

We had four from West Limerick AC take part in Parkrun in the Demense Newcastle West. This is a great run for beginners and seasoned campaigners alike. Well done Ide Curtin, David Wrenne,  Tara Carr and John Barrett.

Tuesday Night Training:

Please note that all club training will take place on the Newcastle West GAA all weather pitch on Tuesday nights.

Juveniles are from 6pm to 7pm. Parents are asked to accompany their children into the all weather pitch and collect from the same spot after.

Adults are training on the all weather pitch from 7pm to 8pm. Please have your warm up done beforehand. The session begins at 7pm sharp.

It is €2 per person for the adult session. There is no charge for the Juvenile session.

New and returning members are always welcome in both Juvenile and Adult training. The interval sessions are a good way to stay fit and increase your speed during the winter months in a safe well light  area.

Dublin Marathon:

The National Marathon is fast approaching. The race has moved from its traditional Monday and will take place on the Bank Holiday Sunday in 2 weeks time. There are record numbers of 19500 due to take part, making it the 4th largest marathon in Europe. Our athletes like athletes from all over the country have been training away for the past few months at this stage and will be glad that the start line is now in sight. There will be around 20 members of West Limerick AC taking part, with about 80 others from the other Limerick athletic clubs. Most notable is Seamus Cawley who will be competing in his 37th consecutive Dublin Marathon. A remarkable record. Best of luck to everyone taking part and enjoy the race weekend.
